FAQ: What is IDCODE?

Filed under FAQ / JTAG IEEE 1149.1

Q: What is IDCODE?

Answer:

IDCODE is 32bit number uniquely identifying part type in JTAG chain. Almost all JTAG devices support IDCODE, but there are some exceptions such as Freescale/Motorola PowerPC. JTAGTest is capable of detecting all devices in JTAG chain based on IDCODEs. IDCODE is usually same for different package variants of chip.
